BECOME A Volunteer Lacrosse Coach!
We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to assist with the program. Please see the description of the responsibilities below.
Location: Brookline, MA
Reports to: Lead grade level Coach
Overview: Brookline Youth Lacrosse is seeking Parent Volunteer Lacrosse Coaches to support the development and success of our youth lacrosse teams. Parent volunteers play a critical role in fostering a positive, high-energy environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and a love for the game. Parent Volunteer Coaches will assist the Lead grade level Coach in facilitating drills, promoting a high-paced and enthusiastic practice atmosphere, and supporting all players in their progress. This role is ideal for parents who are passionate about lacrosse, enjoy working with youth athletes, and want to contribute to the success of the Brookline lacrosse community. Coaches will also need to complete Brookline Recreation Training and Background Process.
Responsibilities
Drill Facilitation:
Assist the Lead Coach in running age-appropriate drills, ensuring players stay engaged and active.
Promote less talking and more doing to maintain the flow and energy of practices.
Player Support:
Recognize and celebrate player progress during practices, fostering an aspirational and supportive environment.
Provide encouragement and feedback to players, reinforcing skill development and teamwork.
Practice Environment:
Help maintain a high-paced, high-energy atmosphere during practices.
Actively participate in creating a culture of enthusiasm, respect, and inclusion for all players.
Work closely with the Lead Coach and other parent volunteers to execute practice plans effectively.
Support the strong facilitation of practices by assisting with setup, equipment management, and group management as needed.
Player Development Focus:
Apply your knowledge of lacrosse in a sensible, age-appropriate manner to help players improve their skills and confidence.
Expectations
Commit to attending scheduled practices (Tuesdays and Thursdays for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th grades; Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for 5th grade and up)(If partial commitment is possible, please communicate accordingly).
Support Sunday game coaching for your child’s grade level as needed.
Be an active and positive presence at practices, ensuring the focus remains on player improvement and enjoyment.
For Boys coaches, complete the required Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse Coaching Training, which will ensure familiarity with league standards, player safety, and best coaching practices. Complete other training as assigned.
Qualifications
Enthusiasm for working with youth athletes and promoting a love for lacrosse.
Ability to follow practice plans and instructions from the Lead Coach.
Positive attitude, energy, and a collaborative spirit.
Some knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals is preferred but not required—training and guidance will be provided.
